Mike Congratulates Sporting Edinburgh Pupils

4.16.48pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 11th Jun 2008

Mike Pringle MSP has lead calls of congratulations at the Scottish Parliament for the 44 pupils from 16 schools and five disciplines across Edinburgh who were part of this year's City of Edinburgh Schools Sports Academy.

The Academy has been a great success in its inaugural year with thirty six pupils progressing to become part of regional and national squads from two in that position at the outset. Such has been the interest in the Academy that it is set to be expanded by a further 30 pupils next year.

A motion Mike submitted to the Parliament congratulating the pupils and the Academy has attracted cross party support from MSPs.

Mike Pringle said

"This is an excellent initiative by the City of Edinburgh Council.

"With the Commonwealth and Olympic Games just around the corner it is vital that Scotland's young sporting talent is nurtured.

"Who knows these young pupils may well be the sporting stars of the future."
