Mike Pringle Views the New Mobile Branch

Concerned by news that recent legislation passed by the UK Government has placed all 12 post offices in his Edinburgh South under threat of closure, Mike Pringle has pledged to campaign against cuts to vital local services.

Mike Pringle was speaking outside the Scottish Parliament as he visited a new mobile post office which is being proposed as a possible solution to closures.

He met Julia Morrison, Head of Post Office External Relations in Scotland, and suggested that one of the new mobile units may be appropriate for Prestonfield to serve local residents who currently have to get a bus to their nearest branch.

Mike Pringle said

"Last week the City of Edinburgh Council voted to condemn these post office closures by a margin of 43 to 15, which just goes to show the level of feeling among Edinburgh residents with regards to cuts."

"Post offices are vital local services often offering lifeline amenities to communities. Although there are perhaps alternatives that would be suitable in some areas, such as a possible mobile unit for Prestonfield, equally there are also key post offices that must be protected.

"I will campaign hard against these UK Government closures."
