Pringle Calls for Lower Drink Drive Limit

1.55.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 6th Dec 2007

Liberal Democrat Community Safety spokesperson Mike Pringle MSP has welcomed moves by the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (ACPOS) to breathalyse all motorists stopped for driving offences.

Mr Pringle reiterated Scottish Liberal Democrat support for the drink-driving limit to be cut from 80mg to 50mg.

Commenting, Mr Pringle said:

"This is an excellent initiative and I congratulate the ACPOS on the sensible decision to extend the campaign indefinitely.

"Scottish Liberal Democrats also want the drink-driving limit to be cut from 80mg to 50mg.

"Although I am pleased that the Scottish Cabinet has indicated it will discuss this proposal, I am disappointed that, as yet, there is no firm Government support for lobbying the Westminster Government."
